Ernie Strydom
I am the co-owner of Wikkelvoetjies, which we proudly purchased on 1 June 2013. After retiring as the Chief Financial Officer of a multinational company with its head office in the Netherlands, I now oversee the financial and administrative management of the school. It is a privilege to be part of an environment where children are nurtured, encouraged, and given the opportunity to learn and grow each day. In my free time, I enjoy going camping and spending time outdoors with my family. One of my greatest joys is standing next to the hockey field, proudly watching my grandchildren play hockey and supporting them in all they do.

I am the co-owner of Wikkelvoetjies, which we proudly purchased on 1 June 2013. I am a retired teacher with 38 years of experience in the foundation phase of education. Although I am not involved at the preschool on a daily basis, I still play an active role in several areas of the school. My responsibilities include planning the school menu, doing the weekly shopping for supplies, and assisting with lessons and aftercare whenever needed. Working with children has always been close to my heart, and I enjoy contributing to an environment where they can learn, grow, and feel loved. In my free time, I enjoy sewing, arts and crafts, and baking. I love being creative and using these hobbies to bring joy to my family and those around me.

I have been working at Wikkelvoetjies preschool and aftercare for more than 20 years. I teach the 2- to 4-year-old children, and it is a great privilege for me to work, play, and learn with them every day. I enjoy being part of their development and watching them grow in confidence, knowledge, and love. At our school, we also teach the children about Jesus, and they know that Jesus made each one of them special and unique. It is very meaningful for me to share these values with them. There is nothing more beautiful to me than seeing a child develop through learning and play. I also absolutely love listening to the children talk, laugh, and build new friendships with one another. And yes… during the December holidays, I really miss the children! 😊

I am a dedicated and compassionate individual with a National Diploma in Nature Conservation, backed by nearly a decade of hands-on experience working on a Big Five game reserve. During those 9 years, I developed a deep respect for wildlife and the natural world, which continues to shape my passions today—especially my love for wildlife and wildlife photography. For the past 7 years, I have been working as an after-school teacher, where I have found immense joy and purpose. I am truly passionate about working with children and feel incredibly fulfilled watching them grow, learn, and develop into confident individuals. Their energy, laughter, and curiosity bring so much meaning into my life, and I cherish the role I play in their journey. With a unique blend of environmental knowledge and a nurturing spirit, I bring both patience and enthusiasm into everything I do—whether it’s guiding young minds or appreciating the beauty of nature.

Outside of my professional role, I have a deep love for photography and enjoy spending time outdoors, especially in the bush, where I find inspiration and balance.
